**Apprenticeships for the regular season have been filled for 2017. We have space to accept a person or couple starting in August – November. Please get in touch if you would like to apply to work and stay with us this fall.**

Sideroad Farm is looking for one apprentice to join our team for the 2017 season. We are a small, family run veggie, cut flower and pastured livestock operation located in Walters Falls, Ontario. We grow organically and are certifying organic this season. Our products are sold at farmers markets locally, in Toronto as well as through a 75-person CSA program and wholesale accounts. We are entering our ninth season of farming and second on our current farm. Apprentices work alongside us (Patrick and Amy) as well as our employees.

Apprentices gain experience in all aspects of market gardening including field preparation, soil management, weed management, pest management, planting, harvesting and post-harvest handling. They may also gain experience in livestock husbandry including raising pastured heritage pigs, chickens and laying hens if they are interested. Apprentices also have the opportunity to attend farmers markets.

We are looking for an apprentice to commit to a full time workweek (5 or 6 days a week depending on the week). Workdays may extend beyond eight hours and may start early in the morning. The ideal apprentice will start in April or the beginning of May and end at the end of September or October. In return for your commitment to our farm, room and board (all meals and/or the ingredients to prepare your own meals) will be provided as well as a $400 monthly stipend. Private living accommodations are provided on the farm. Apprentices complete comprehensive with on-the-job training and formal classroom learning sessions as well as have access to our farm library.

The ideal apprentices are folks who possess a strong work ethic and are capable of physical work for long hours outside, often performing repetitive tasks. A keen interest in organic/natural farming is a must although prior experience on a farm is not necessary. Our preference is that apprentices have an interest in exploring farming as a career.

To apply for an apprenticeship, please send your resume outlining relevant skills and experience as well as a cover letter describing your interest in farming and an apprenticeship at Sideroad Farm to A phone and in person farm visit may be required as part of the application process.

If you have questions or want to chat about the opportunity, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can also find us on Facebook and Instagram.
